There’s something about standing on the first tee while the sun comes up over the sea. Golf holidays bring together sport, scenery and proper time off in a way very few trips manage. Better still, some of Europe's finest golf destinations are only two to four flight hours away. Here’s your guide to the first golf trip you take — or the next one.

Algarve: Europe's number one golf coast

More than 40 courses along 150 kilometres of coastline, mild winters, and those dramatic clifftop fairways: the Algarve remains Europe's most awarded golf region. Big names such as Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago sit firmly in the world league. Then there’s the rest of it, of course: seafood restaurants, dream beaches, and plenty for the golf-free day. Best bases: Faro, Albufeira or Vilamoura – under three flight hours from Zurich.

Belek: all-inclusive meets championship golf

On the Turkish Riviera, a golf mecca has taken shape that really has no equivalent elsewhere: championship courses threaded through pine forests, directly linked to 5-star resorts where green-fee packages, dining and spa are often part of the price. If comfort matters to you, and you’re travelling with golfing and non-golfing companions, Belek is hard to beat as an overall package. Especially in spring and autumn.

Mallorca & Costa del Sol: golf on a short flight

Mallorca packs more than 20 courses into a very small area, which makes it ideal for a long golf weekend. The Costa del Sol has fully earned its nickname 'Costa del Golf': around 70 courses between Málaga and Marbella create the continent's densest golf region. Both destinations are good for almost the whole year. In high summer, just go for the early tee times.

💡 Reisedrop tip: In the hotel search, watch for the green 'Golf hotel' badge. It marks hotels with a golf course nearby. And via the 'Golf holidays' travel world on the homepage, you’ll see suitable destinations and stays straight away.

Best season & smart booking

The golden golf season in the Mediterranean falls between March to May and September to November: pleasant temperatures, green fairways, fair prices. For the top courses, book tee times 4–8 weeks ahead. Also ask your hotel about green-fee packages, because bundled, three rounds are often cheaper than one alone. With most airlines, your golf bag flies as sports luggage from about 50 francs per leg, so it’s worth registering it early.
